Sport and intelligence: an established link in quarantine

Danish researchers found the best sports performance among Danes 40 years with a good score of intelligence.

Sport is the best way to live healthy throughout his life. From forties, men seem to have understood. Indeed, Danish researchers from the University of Copenhagen have linked for the first time between IQ quarantine and sports performance.

In a study published by the Journal of Aging and Health, they explain to have measured the level of intelligence, through a points system, of 2848 Danish men born in 1953 and 1959 to 1961. They then tested their physical capabilities by analyzing their balance, the strength of their handshake and power of their legs on exercise of the chair. "Our study clearly shows that a higher score of intelligence in adult quarantine causes better results in tests for back, legs, hands and for balance, "says Rikke Hodal Meincke, a researcher who participated in this work.

A healthier lifestyle

Specifically, each 10 points of intelligence corresponds to an increase of 0.5 kg in force in the lower back, 1 cm jump height, improved muscle strength in the leg, an increase of 0.7 kg the hand grip strength, more balance and more power in the legs.

One reason that could explain this connection, the researchers would be that "men with higher intelligence score better understand and interpret health information. So they adopt a healthier lifestyle by doing more regularly physical exercise. " Results that could lead to specific programs to help older people maintain good physical shape.
